Ultimate is a sport of big moments – the long downfield huck, the layout goal, the sky in the end zone and the list goes on. Over the past four years of Major League Ultimate, those moments have been captured by our partners at UltiPhotos. In our series, Caught in Action, we look at some of the greatest moments from MLU’s history and how they have been captured by the talented photographers at UltiPhotos. This week, we take a look at a spectacular moment captured by Marshall Goff.

For the New York Rumble, the 2016 season was about developing young players into a strong core for the future. While the team did not make the playoffs, they certainly showed flashes of the solid talent being developed within the franchise. During their final game of the season in Week 11, rookie Casey Startzell showed fans that despite not moving into the postseason, the Rumble were proudly representing their hometown.

Early in the second half, with the Rumble trailing the Boston Whitecaps, Rumble cutter Justin Carter found Startzell in the end zone for the score. Tossing away the disc after the goal, Startzell pulled his jersey over his head, revealing an “I Heart NY” T-shirt, pounded his chest and threw his arms up in the air. As Startzell celebrated, Goff snapped the shot.

The Whitecaps would win the game (BOXSCOREWATCH GAME), but Startzell’s show of love for his city, the fans and his teammates was the perfect message to send after a season full of promising signs for the future of the franchise.

That’s one way to celebrate a goal. The Boston Whitecaps celebrated their last home game of the season with a 32-16 win over the NY Rumble in Major League Ultimate action. Hormel Stadium, Medford, MA. © Marshall Goff for UltiPhotos, June 18, 2016.
