The Rumble are proud to announce that Chris Wicus has signed on to be the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach this season. Wicus has also been signed and added to the roster as a Rumble player.
Wicus is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Coach and a Level 1 Functional Movement Specialist.
Born in Rochester, NY, Wicus got his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Integrative Physiology. He is currently getting his masters in Sports Coaching and Management from St. John’s University in Queens, where he also works as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
No stranger to top-level Ultimate, Wicus played in college for Colorado Mamabird, perennially finishing in the top 5 at College Nationals while he was there. He has also played for Johnny Bravo, finishing 9th at Club Nationals with them in 2009, as well as playing with NYC mixed team Bashing Pinatas, going to Club Nationals with them in 2007.
Having been the Assistant Coach and Strength Coach for Colorado Mamabird, as well as the Strength Coach for Johnny Bravo in 2012, he has been coaching Division 1 athletes since 2010.
He is excited for the opportunity to make an impact with the Rumble by acting as the Strength and Conditioning Coach, as well as a player this season.
“Programming and coaching for Ultimate has always been a fun challenge for me and its specific demands are different from most sports,” says Wicus. “I look forward to coaching and playing with the best Ultimate players in New York City.”
