New York area Ultimate players descended upon Randall’s Island on Saturday to tryout for the 2014 Rumble.

Approximately 65 players attended Saturday’s tryout to compete for the remaining spots on the 2014 New York Rumble roster. Rumble coaches, General Manager Michelle Kondracki and a player committee consisting of Ben Faust, Dan Heijmen and Jody Avirgan were on hand to evaluate the talent pool to see what New York had to offer.

The first tryout took place at field 73 on Randall’s Island, beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. and lasting nearly four hours. The tryouts gathered as Head Coach Anthony Nuñez spoke to the group before they broke off into smaller groups for some warm-up drills.

The Rumble coaches ran the team through a variety of activities including a mini tournament, deep cutting drill and two full-team scrimmages in order for the tryouts to showcase their talent.

“There were a ton of talented players out today,” said Nuñez. “I was impressed with how many pure athletes came out to the tryout and definitely see a bright future for the Rumble this season.”

“We do not have an easy task ahead of us but I look forward to the next steps,” said Nuñez. “A special thanks to GM Michelle Kondracki and all the staff members for helping make the tryout a great success.”

The next tryout will be next Saturday, March 1st at Pier 40 in Manhattan. Click here to register for the tryout.
