New York signed defensive cutter Sean Murray to the 2014 Rumble roster.  They acquired Murray in free agency from the Philadelphia Spinners, a move to bolster their already dynamic defensive line.

Murray led the Spinners last season with 38 combined points, scoring 26 goals and adding 12 assists. Murray also contributed on the defensive side of the disc with 5 defensive plays, third on the team.

Murray said he chose to sign with the Rumble due to positive conversations with GM Michelle Kondracki and Coach Anthony Nuñez about the direction of the team’s future. A recent father, the move to New York also keeps Murray closer to home.

Murray recently met up with some of his new teammates for an offseason pickup game in New York City.

“I am very excited to get to know the New York Rumble players better as teammates instead of opponents. I have great respect for the New York area Ultimate scene, having played against a lot of these players during my time competing with Philly based teams since 2005,” said Murray. “Developing chemistry at preseason practices will be a very important challenge, especially for me as a new member of the team.”

Murray hopes to do his part to help the Rumble clinch a playoff berth, and ultimately bring the MLU championship to New York in 2014.

“Sean is the type of receiver who can come up big both on offense and defense,” said Coach Nuñez. “He brings constant positivity, and we welcome him to our Rumble family. I look forward to coaching Sean because he adds the right kind of spark the Rumble need.”

Murray adds to a busy and productive offseason for the Rumble, joining recent signings Chris Mazur, Ben Faust, Robbie Gillies, Joe Anderson, Jon Cox and newcomer Isaac Saul.

Murray earned the Friction Gloves Catch of the Week in Week 3 last season, and received airtime on both SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays and ESPN’s SportsNation. Check out the catch below:
