The New York Rumble announced on Thursday the signing of veteran Tim MacGougan, who will join the squad for this Sunday’s home opener against the Washington D.C. Current.
MacGougan brings to the team an extensive resume at the highest levels of ultimate. A graduate of the University of Richmond, MacGougan has played for elite club teams Portland Rhino and New York PoNY, who he has competed with at club Nationals twice.
MacGougan said he is looking forward to the experience of playing professional ultimate for the first time.
“I joined the team for two main reasons,” said MacGougan. “I’ve had great experiences playing with Rumble guys, and the regional competition is really strong. Playing tough games with great teammates is what it’s all about.”
For the Rumble, MacGougan said he expects to contribute on both sides of the disc.
“I’ll probably fill whatever gaps the team thinks it has, possibly in a role that’s consistent, possibly in one that varies each week, or each point,” he said. “Whatever it is, I’ll hope to add a little ‘right place at the right time’ veteran savvy, make some plays, throw some bombs and be a constant source of positive energy.”
New York head coach Anthony Nuñez echoed MacGougan’s comments, praising MacGougan for his versatility and strong handling skills.
“Tim is an athletic thrower who will help provide strong defense and smart offense,” said Nunez. “Before the season we set up a scrimmage with local club players and Tim stood out right away. He was making play after play and was being a great teammate to a bunch of guys he barely knew.”
Nuñez thinks the addition of MacGougan, as well as extra time to gel as a team, will help the Rumble begin to push their way toward some wins.
“Tim is the exact piece that our team needs to help push us to success,” said Nuñez
Fans can catch MacGougan in action during the Rumble’s home opener this Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The game will take place at the Rumble’s new home venue, Belson Stadium, home of St. John’s University Red Storm.
