The World Championships of Beach Ultimate have come to a close, and New York Rumble players Sean Murray and Chris Gwinner have returned to New York with gold medals around their necks.

Murray and Gwinner recently had the opportunity to represent New York and the United States at the international level as they traveled to Dubai from March 8-13 to compete in the WCBU 2015 with Team USA’s Mixed Masters division. Team USA’s Mixed Masters team was successful during their time in the sun, earning the gold medal after going undefeated in nine games and defeating Canada 9-5 in the final.

“I am honored to have been selected to play for Team USA’s Mixed Masters team and to represent our country at the international stage,” said Gwinner. “I could not have asked for better teammates to share the experience with and to ultimately bring home the gold against Canada in the finals.”

Sean Murray echoed Gwinner’s sentiment, relishing in the opportunity to suit up for the U.S.

“It was a real honor to be invited to represent Team USA at WCBU 2015 in Dubai, and I felt lucky to be a part of such a great group of people and players on our Mixed Masters division team,” said Murray. “It was an incredible experience to come together and achieve our team goal of winning gold against great teams and players from around the world.”

Sean Murray showed up as a huge force for Team USA in Dubai, leading the team in goals and assists. Murray finished the tournament with a team-high 18 assists and 15 goals, finishing with the second most points overall in the tournament.

Chris Gwinner also had a great showing during the tournament, racking up an impressive 11 assists and four goals.

Murray was excited to find out he would have a future Rumble teammate on Team USA and for the opportunity to play with Gwinner before the MLU season begins.

“After Gwinner played so well in our run to the finals at Lei Out, I told him I really hoped he could make it out this season to join a very talented Rumble roster and great coaching staff,” said Murray. “We met up for a Rumble workout in the city before WCBU and took some good chemistry to Dubai, which I am excited to have the opportunity to expand on this season with the Rumble.”

With the 2015 MLU season only three weeks away, the Rumble are looking forward to the energy and momentum this pair will bring as they follow up on their world title.

“The opportunity to play with Sean before the MLU season was an added bonus,” said Gwinner. “Sean’s positive attitude, pure athleticism and veteran experience are all qualities that you love to see in a teammate.”

Gwinner and Murray combined for one of the biggest highlight reel plays of the tournament for Team USA’s Mixed Master’s team, when Gwinner threw a full field pass that Murray caught inches from the ground on a fully extended layout during USA’s victory over Canada in the championship game.

“I am looking forward to Sean catching plenty of my deep shots this season,” said Gwinner.
