The New York Rumble hosted their first tryout last weekend at the Pier 40 Courtyard Fields.

At 6:45 am, before the sun even came up on Saturday, February 16, some of New York’s most talented Ultimate players lined up to check in for the first New York Rumble tryout. “This is the start of something amazing for New York Ultimate,” said Coach Daniel Quaranta.

After the huddle talk, the players showed off their skills in three drills and two sets of scrimmages. It was cold, snowing and windy, but the players did a nice job battling the elements with their throws.

The last scrimmage was played according to MLU rules, which quickly showed the players the differences between a MLU style game and what they were used to. With the help of Head Coach Quaranta and Assistant Coach Anthony Nunez, the players adapted quickly to the challenges of the wider and larger field, which was evidence to the level of talent that showed up at this first Rumble tryout. Drills stayed fast-paced to fight the cold weather. At the end of the day, the players ended on sprints and brought it in for one big “Rumble”.
